A Great Day on our Inaugural ‘Breakaways’ Tour! 2

Although the day started gray and drizzly, the weather did not dampen our first inaugural Breakaways Tour! Later to be dubbed ‘the party bus’, the Treasure Hunters Tour to Abbey (Abbotsford) got off to a great start with tasty loaves to nibble and hot coffee & tea to sip in preparation for the shopping frenzy to follow.

was expertly maneuvered by Lou and before we could blink, we were at the MCC Thrift Store in Abbotsford. Anticipation was heightened while we waited for the doors to swing open and when they did the group scattered searching for that one special treasure. abounding.

Next stop is ChocoaTas for a morning chocolate wine shooter.  Yes yummy chocolate wine in a dark chocolate shooter cup (or you could choose Baileys).  What a great way to get the day rolling.

Chocolate goodies purchased we are off to the Historic Downtown of Abbotsford where there are many more thrift and boutique stores along with the weekly Farmer’s Market.  Lou kept the bus open and before long the back of it looked like a proper floral nursery and gift delivery centre!

Conversation and laughter reaching high decibels Lou gets us to the Mt. Lehman winery for our wine tasting.  Vern from Mt. Lehman is a delight and gives us a taste of 6 wonderful wines, one of which we can choose to have with our lunch.  Brambles Bistro has set up our private catered lunch in the wine barrel room at Mt. Lehman’s complete with white china, black tablecloth and fresh flowers of the season.

Lunch was an incredible homemade soup creation from the chef, artisan greens and fabulous gourmet sandwiches – food fit for a queen, and finished off with Vern’s wonderful wine. Bottles of purchased wine were added to the growing collection at the back of the bus!

We now bound off to Granny & Grumpas where they claim ‘we buy junk and sell antiques’.  They have been on Canadian Pickers and are a picker’s dream!  Granny came out to greet the coach but didn’t seem in a hurry to sell any of her treasurers. She did like to chat up a storm though.

To finish our tour in style we celebrated with champagne and lovely little cupcakes from Tracy Cakes and our own little contest on WHO had the best deal of the day.  It was a wild competition and finally we decided on 3 finalists!  Amongst the laughter and frivolity we rolled back into Vancouver with our treasures and promises of seeing each other again soon! What a great day!
