Today is our first hiking day and we are all excited to get going!  We start with a exploration walk in old San Quirico, a gorgeous little town built in medieval times, surrounding walls intact.  From here we walk south of town through stunning countryside to Vignoni Alta with its truncated tower.  We continue on descending towards Bagno Vignoni with its thermal baths, although it isn’t all that warm.

Every corner is a perfect picture, whether it be vineyards, fields or Tuscan towns.

The hot springs at Bagno Vignoni have been known since Etruscan times.  Santa Caterina of Siena and Lorenzo the Magnificent were amongst those to have taken advantage of the therapeutic values of the waters.  The Medici family built the splendid arcaded pool which sits in the middle of the village where you would normally expect to find the main square.
