Nepal Nirvana – Oct 13, 2018 Bandipur to Pokhara

Photos of our Fabulous Adventure

I slept in until 7:30am – feel much better after having a long sleep.

Cathy, Caryl and Tammy went to a 6:30am yoga class which they said was fabulous. Others have been wandering the village, I was the only sleepyhead! Breakfast was at 8:30am and near the end Bikesh arrived and an 11:00am departure was established. Hate to rush away from this great little village.

Cathy, our little shopper, managed to find a couple of gems in the shops and several of us followed suit. Our suitcases are expanding by the minute.

Time has come to say adieu to Bandipur and we wind our way down the steep valley, which doesn’t seem as daunting today. Within minutes we turn a corner, and finally get a glimpse of the Annapurna range. The mountains have been eluding us this trip so it was a thrill to finally see them peeking through the clouds. Our sights were set just above the hills and we realized we had to look much, much higher.

The journey to Pokhara took just over 2.5 hours allowing for the countless cars and never ending road construction. It will be great once it is completed.

We check in to the beautiful Waterfront Hotel located at the far end of Phewa Lake. Minutes later we are all heading out to walk to town and source out a dinner spot. We walked past countless shops, restaurants, bakeries and bars until finally we came across the Moondance restaurant that the front desk had recommended. It didn’t appeal to us so we headed back to find an alternate. Caryl had seen a nice one called Dorje’s and I had seen an OR2K which is a sister restaurant to the one in Kathmandu that I have eaten at. We thought for sure we had miscalculated the distance, and finally we saw them – they were both in the same plaza, one on the main floor, other other on the 2nd.

We went into Dorje’s and as it was Happy Hour, we decided it was a good idea to have a snack too! We chose a table with a nice view, and all ordered the 2 for 1 drink special. And why not! We had a fantastic time, the staff were super friendly, the food tasty and the drinks refreshing. Before too long, the sky darkened and large raindrops fell. Cathy and I were under an overhang so we didn’t move very quickly, however the other 4 bolted and when I turned, there they were perched on bar stools without a care in the world. The bartender was quite the entertainer and we decided this was a great dinner spot.

The rain stopped and like giggling school girls we walked the 1/2 hour back to the hotel and had a short rest. At 7pm, Bikesh and Prem picked us up and dropped us back off at the restaurant. The frivolity continued and they extended Happy Hour for us. The rain returned and was a tropical deluge, thankfully we were under cover. The food was very good and a fabulous evening had by all.

Bikesh and Prem returned to take us back and we happily retired to our respective rooms.
